First of all many thanks for the head work you’re doing to benefit many users like me really appreciated. On my Japanese language ZX300 I have installed as per instructions and all seems fine except the language is still the same I.e. Japanese. Is it normal? And lastly is there any way to change the language to English please? Many thanks
Hey, if you can't change the language from Japanese, it means your player is using the J region. You can change the region with the tool available here: https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SonyNWDestTool
All the necessary info about the tool and how to use it can be found there. After changing the region, just restart the player (no need to reset the settings), and then you should be able to change the language. You can switch back to J region afterwards, and the English language will remain.
Thank you very much! It sounds the vocal are more clear and warmer and the bass has increased.I have just donated as a little token of my appreciation through PayPal.
When I first bought the zx300, I was quite disappointed compared to my fantasies of a well-rated music player back in 2017, the sound of the zx300 version 1.02 was not really interesting to me, so the frequency of use My usage tapered off until completely. put my zx in the cupboard. But I was really surprised, 3 years later, on a typical day, I downloaded Mr.Walkman's DMP-300 firmware and miraculously happened, my ZX300 came alive and different. completely. It feels like every hardware placed by Sony on the zx300 has been exploited by Mr.Walkman very effectively. This makes me want to thank Mr.Walkman, who "reborn" my ZX with his dedication.
Awesome work! Great job Mr. Walkman! I have just donated as a little token of my appreciation through PayPal :) Just one question: it is correct that the name displayed in the device information remains "ZX300" (in previous versions it was changed to "Z1"). The installation procedure seems to have been successful, but I would like to be sure ...
Thanks, I really appreciate it, and I hope that you like the sound!
Yep, the displayed name is now ZX300. As long as you can see "DMP-300 FE" in the "Unit information" menu, and if you also applied the DMP-300_FE_Ext_Tuning, all should be fine.
All my praise, thank you very much for sharing all your work with so much patience and generosity. I'm amazed of how my CA Vega sound with the zx300 with the FEv2 version. Amazing rendition of sound and yes, i'll repeat that topic that says that it seems that a veil disappeared. I didn't notice it in a so dramatic way with the "classic" FE: it seems that the improvement in the mids and highs area, a bit more detailed and smoother at the same time, has the best synergy with Vega's signature. Again, thanks.
I just wanted to thank you, MrWalkman, for making the DMP-300 FEv2 available so quickly. The ZX300 will now be like its big brother. I had no difficulty installing the new software and tuning. The switch between "classic" mode and "plus" mode with the "hold" button works perfectly. Thanks again.
Hi! Z1 contains an amplifier and a DAC, and 300 is built on an S-master amplifier. Does your firmware remove the signature S-master sound? Can you say that changes in the sound of your firmware improve the natural sound of the player? Or are they just beautifying the sound, making it more "interesting" but less truthful?
Hey, the changes to the sound are towards naturalness. This should be obvious after giving it a good listen. Voices sound more like voices, and other sounds are simply more realistic.
Thanks for the answer! But I still have a question :-) I also use the player as a signal source, connecting it to an external DAC using an adapter Sony WMC-NWH 10. After your firmware, will the digital signal be output unchanged?
Why do I often appear the prompt of please connect the USB device? It is clear that I have connected the USB device. This has happened from time to time in the previous version. But now I want to restore other versions, which are not allowed. Now I can only transfer songs, and I can't update / restore any firmware
Hi, Thank you for the work. just question, after I installed the custom firmware, when I connect to pc, music center tell me that my NNW-WM1A, NW-WM1Z( zx300) can be update, and It failed during the reboot of the player. Is that normal? Or I shouldn't update the player as all? Thankyou again.
Hey, your player is still a ZX300, and I took steps to ensure that someone doesn't install the 1A/Z firmware by mistake, as things can go wrong (touchscreen not working, for example).
I have the zx300-A++ mrwalkman firmware installed, but I don't have the stock revert file anymore (old computer died). How do I revert the firmware? Thanks!
Really love the sound features! Thank you!!! BTW, any chance to provide a option for people like me who loves the Plus mode to boot into Plus mode by default?
Excellent work. Thank you! Out of curiosity, and this may have been answer based on adding the percentage to the battery life requiring access to the source code, but does the firmware allow for positioning of the scrollbar in menus (songs, artists, playlist, etc.)? For instance, positioning scrollbar on left or right of screen? The person using our device is left-handed, making it difficult to view the screen while scrolling with one hand (left hand thumb). Thanks in advance!
First of all, thank you for your marvelous firmware. For I'm Chinese,I can't express my appreciate to you well. Secondly,I want to come up with a detail. After installing the Midnight v2.Project Z, I returned to the official version and changed the rigeon from China to Japan,I find the certificition (only the version of Japan has it)was not the zx300series at all. It changed to the NWA1,for the bottom of the certificition has a picture of NWA1,what I haven't seen before.I hope you to have a look at this case. Finally, thank you for your firmware again, the device works well. from a Chinese graduate student
Hey, I know the solution, but I'd rather have it in a future update. Unfortunately I don't have too much available time to work on multiple things at once.
This thing is not doing anything to make the player unusable, so I don't really see it as a priority.
Hi, Thank you for the work. In Midnight v2 for ZX300/A (September 6th), I got some issues when installing the firmware. Both external_tuning in the file cannot be installed. It always shows "Connect the player to the computer with a USB cable". But, I have already plugged in the USB. Also, after I installed the "1. Midnight_v2_(for_ZX300)_installer", it seems that some part of the contents (bottom navigation) is missing. Can you help me to figure it out? I can't wait to try the Midnight v2. Thank you again.
YES,ZX300A, got the same "Connect the player to the computer with a USB cable" error here. Plz check this version if it can recognize ZX300/A correctly. Great thx for your mod.
As I mentioned above, confirm what firmware yoi have installed in the "Unit Information" menu, and make sure you enable the Mass Storage mode, otherwise installation won't work.
My BAD. Last firmware installed was Project-Z.So I used the wrong reverting tool. After using the correct reverting tool, everything works perfectly. Grateful Heartly!
he said that the WalkmanOne for Zx300 will come after the A30, so we have to be patient to wait because making a project like this is not as easy as turning the palm of the hand
Hi Mr Walkman - sometimes the installer recognizes the ZX300 is connected to the computer and most times it doesn't when trying to install Walkman One fw. Thanks!
Hello MrWalkman, Great job with the custom firmware. Like many others, after loaded the FW, my zx-300 suddenly came to life. It was collecting dust for a good 1.5 yrs. Just wondering what is your next big plan? Since WalkmanOne covers everything anyone ever needed already.
In the future I plan on adding some more sound signatures, like the WM1A one, for example. I also plan to think of an easier way to change the additional settings.
Hi MrWalkman, what a stunning piece of sound hacking you accomplished for ZX300. Anyaway, I can't get the alternative sound signature when initializing the device, even changing the settings file (alwys a NORMAl in the device info). Thanks in advance for your advice.
Hey, if you applied the corresponding external tuning and you don't see the "External tuning not applied" message in the Unit Information menu, you only have to make sure that the "Hold" button is in the Up position while the player is booting.
After the player boots completely, you can do whatever you like with the "Hold" button.
In this way you can start the player in the chosen Plus mode. You can also choose in the settings file to start with the chosen Plus mode by default, without having to put the "Hold" button in the Up position. If you'll do that, then starting the player with the "Hold" button in the Up position will result in the Normal mode being used.
I wrote about this in the FAQ section (link in the navigation bar above).
Hello MrWalkman. I am Japanese. Im sorry im not good at English. When installing CFW,I connect my PCandWALKMAN via USB,But the message (Connect the player to the computer with a USB cable.) Does not disappear. The WALKMAN is in mass storage modo. Iwould like to Know other solutions.
hello mr walkman I can't install modified firmware. I have a ZX300A overseas and a ZX300G in Japan. Can I install it by changing the language setting of the main unit?
i have been using your firmware for a while now, and really enjoy having the choice of sound signatures. I use the sony music centre to manage my library, and when connecting my ZX300 it asks if i would like to update it, i have always refused as i assumed it would wipe your firmware, is that correct?
I've been using your firmware for some time now, and I really appreciate your audio settings and system configuration. Is it possible to retain Bluetooth and playback time after installing the custom firmware (CFW)? These features are crucial to me.
I have using your zx300 firmware WM1Z(warm), but I cannot connect BT headphone or sound bar . I remember connect BT normally before modified , please help, thanks.
I am currently used Midnight_V2 firmware and I have successfully reverted the step 1. However, the step 2 (stockRevert_Ext Tuning) is not working as it keep asking me to plug the unit into the usb for which I did and it is in USB Mass Storage mood. I am using Windows 11 Pro. Please help. I want to install the Walkman One ZX300 after this. Is this step even necessary prior to installing the Walkman-One firmware? If yes, can I use the step 2 app included in the latest WalkmanOne.
First of all many thanks for the head work you’re doing to benefit many users like me really appreciated.
